A Day On Hong Kong's Gold Coast

I've been getting alot of emails from people asking if we're okay since the earthquake occurred yesterday in Sichuan province. First, thanks for asking. Secondly, yes, we're fine. Hong Kong is a long way from Sichuan province. In fact, at the time it happened we were eating the lunch pictured below. I've heard that people as far away as Thailand and Shanghai felt the temblor and some people in Hong Kong claim to have felt it as well but neither of us did. I really hope the death toll doesn't keep climbing but I fear the numbers will be astronomical before it's all over.
I don't really have much to say today. To be honest, this entry is just an excuse to put some pictures out there. Today, Buddha's birthday, was a national holiday and we had a day to ourselves. We'd been thinking of moving from where we live now to somewhere less crowded and more laid back so we thought we'd check out the Gold Coast which is in a part of Hong Kong called the New Territories.
It's cheaper to live there and you get alot more space for your money. The reason it's cheaper is mainly because it takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to get to downtown Hong Kong.
We had fun and we did find a couple of nice places - both of them three bedroom apartments, about 1100 square feet, with large balconies but in the end we decided that it would be hard to beat the place we already live at. Mainly because the service staff here is so exceptional but also because we live right above the airport express train station and The Girl does travel alot. So, I think we're going to stay put here for another year or so.
We did find a good restaurant called "Chile-n-Spice" that serves mainly Thai and some Indian food. We had some garlic-chile prawns, Chicken tikka, spicy chicken lettuce wraps and some green beans with fiery peppers and ground pork. Deeeelicious!

Aren't the NT cheap because it's always flooded during the typhoon season?
Cause one of my students was from there and he was always missing his classes because of that... or maybe it was just an excuse. His English sucked anyway.
I quoted you in my last post, hope you don't mind (please don't kill me!)
You know, I'm not really sure about the whole flooding thing in the NT as a whole but I'm pretty sure the Gold Coast should be okay. It's mostly expats there and Hod forbid the expats are displeased, remember?
And thanks for the complement on your blog. The truth is, I WOULD make the design of my blog more interesting...it's just that I'm too thick to figure out how to do it!

Or... maybe it's a HK trick to KILL the expats! Never know... never know...
Read again James Clavell novels, the answer should be there somewhere.
